this could be me like totally over analysing things as per usual but it’s so interesting in the scene with just rafe topper and ruthie where rafe talks down his relationship with sofia, where i feel like you can tell he’s almost begrudgingly hesitant before he says “just because we hook up doesn’t mean she’s my girlfriend” and the way he processes it too before uttering those words where the way I interpreted it was as if he was preparing himself to flick the switch and convert facades to the persona ruthie and topper want him to be, exuding a careless laid back personality who looks down on pogues.

I feel like the mannerisms and tone of that scene was purposely acted by drew to implicate that he didn’t really mean what he said and stated it for the sake of saving face which is his own problem to fix, but idk what it is about it though about his reluctance to say that she’s his girlfriend publicly in front of Hollis or Ruthie and Topper I wanted to know what your opinion on it is because he clearly cares about her deeply, there’s so much proof of sofia being his emotional and spiritual confidant, almost as if she’s his moral compass, there’s a reliance there from both sides and he does bring her to places but I guess not enough to tell everyone their status because of her socioeconomic status? Is it just down to him still not getting over the whole pogue v kook thing? or is that Sofia is so sacred to him and he doesn’t want share that? I mean I know he eventually says it in episode 6 (I replayed that part an unhealthy amount of times🙂‍↕️) and the writers are lazy as hell so they probably just forgot about it so it probably isn’t even that deep but I’m just bored out of mind bc this show isn’t going to come back for at least a year🙃

I love your interpretation!! And there’s no such thing as an over analysis!! I totally agree. I love your ideas of it being like a switch he turns on, donning the facade of a kook who hates pogues, when in reality I don’t think he cares. Rafe is opportunistic, he hates pogues only when it’s in his interest (like in s1 where he would bully them for fun, blame them for his mistakes but was fine with Barry when no one else was around). It’s the same with Sofia– he doesn’t care that she’s a pogue, he only cares if she’s good to him (and there’s a whole other conversation to be had why he chose Sofia of all people in the first place– the country club bartender, but I’ll talk about that another day😭)

I’ve talked about this in other post, but I think when rafe and Sofia are alone, the markers of “kook” and “pogue” dissipate– they’ve carved out their own little bubble where Rafe isn’t a murderer, a failure, a mess and Sofia isn’t a poor bartender, an older sister responsible for her family.

When they leave that bubble, that’s when those markers return.

“I mean your girlfriend right?”

“Sofia? What about her?”

He acknowledges she’s his girlfriend, he views her as his girlfriend. But when Ruthie is disdainful, that’s when he changes his tune.

“Just cause we hookup doesn’t mean she’s my girlfriend”

He narrows his eyes, looking away from Ruthie, inhaling deeply, about to take a sip– he knows he’s being deceptive, he knows what he’s saying isn’t true.

Sofias reaction is interesting here because she doesn’t seem affronted– she seems disappointed and hurt. It’s like she knows he won’t claim her in front of his friends, like he didn’t claim her in front of Hollis.

“Wait has she moved in yet?”

Sofia perks up, interested. The territory of the future is something she’s unexplored with Rafe. She loves him, she wants to be with him, she wants a future with him. And she can finally find out if he wants the same. Because rafe exclusively lives in the present when he’s with her– that little bubble they created only existing in the now.

“I’m not living with a pogue– I have standards”

And that’s when she looks hurt and angry– her offence at that statement clear. Rafe has introduced the marker of “pogue” into their relationship. She thought he didn’t care, she thought he was different. (“You’re different, I like that��) but he’s not, she finally realises. Any prospect of a future with him crumbles, as she realises she will never live up to “the standards” he has.

Whereas when Rafe says this, he closes his eyes, looking almost drunk (which he probably is). This state of stupor indicates the fictitious nature of his words. The staging of the scene is interesting too– his back his to her so she can’t see his face.

Perhaps if she could, she’d see the facade, but the implication to sofia is he’s turned his back on her– in every sense of the phrase. And him being before Ruthie and Topper, on the other side of the table is like he is performing for them, staging his kook persona. I don’t know why he is clinging to that though, it’s clear she’s not just a hookup, (they’ve been together for nearly two years and they’re attached at the hip) so why is he still attempting to perform? Maybe he doesn’t want their relationship to be scrutinised– if he admits to commitment, then there’s something which exists that he could break. And he doesn’t want what he was with Sofia to break. He just wants to exist in their bubble, away from markers like “pogue” and “kook” and “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” which is why I think he proposed.

He wants to cement it– Rafe’s an all or nothing type of guy, so marriage before admitting she’s your girlfriend is so him. And there’s Sofia, struggling to keep up with his many faces.

Yes, talking to others in the comments is part of what makes writing fic so rewarding. I love knowing that I made people feel something, watching people analyze my work, talking to people about the stories I love, sharing my writing process, and brainstorming ideas for future work together :) I’ve made great friends from this

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Probably the one chapter in unless i am elsewhere where Aziraphale discorporates Crowley…"the hollow book"

The ending that made me feel the angstiest, however, was crawling (‘n other closed doors): “I’m on my knees here and I’m counting on you.”

Do you write crossovers?

I was about to say no…but realized that I did write a BNHA x Hikaru no Go fic back when I was in high school…Deku was Hikaru, Kacchan was Touya, and there were cherry blossoms…that’s all I’ll say about that.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yes! I actually got my first true hate comment a few months back, criticizing the way I wrote Crowley. They pointed out a few lines and then went:  “Did we watch the same show with the same characters?? Because this is not in-character at all. Rewatch Good Omens and tell me that this nonsense would reasonably happen.”  It made me laugh. I do wonder if I make Crowley overly soft/friendly/feminine sometimes, but:

Is there not some internalized misogyny in the idea that being too feminine is bad? Especially for an immortal and relatively genderfluid character 

it is MY version of him. Crowley represents modernity, chaos, and knowledge, and if I as a gen z girl experience those things in a different way than the writers of Good Omens do, maybe it’s okay for me to write a version of him that looks a little different, a little OOC. If anything I think people are able to relate to and enjoy my version of Crowley MORE, bc I put something unique and true about myself in him, rather than only trying to mimic the source material. 

idk 1941 exists so is it really possible to make him too soft…

And of course in the dark old days of fanfiction dot net I had people correcting me for capitalizing the names of Pokemon species, referring to characters by their hair color, etc etc

Kind of? I’m just not very good at it so I don’t end up posting it. If you've read unless I am elsewhere you might already get this, but I tend to think the *suggestion* of sex is usually enough to get the feeling across

Sorry Aziraphale and Crowley, but Julian and Garak were the prototype and nobody can make me laugh like they do :) 

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

Ughhhh I would love to finish the magic trick 5+1 but I just don’t know if it’s going to happen.

What are your writing strengths?

VOICE. I love getting into a character’s head, figuring out what their tone is like, blending in the right slang and references to literature and pop culture. Sometimes I’ll write a sentence and then turn up my nose at it, playing around with the words until it sounds like something They would say. My professors have complimented my “velocity of language” haha.

Maybe this just is an excuse for only writing one-shots, but I would say I write very tight stories.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Keeping my stories going for any longer than 2000 words lmao.

Keeping my titles from ballooning into full sentences.

Also, action scenes, and anything involving physical choreography (this includes smut.)

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I like occasionally referencing Japanese songs in my stories but I don’t know enough to write proper dialogue in it. 

For Good Omens I try to use British spellings/terms/slang whenever I can catch them as I think it contributes to getting the ambiance of the piece right, particularly for pov Aziraphale, but I do slip up quite a bit (the “chunky sweater” in ch 1 of unless i am elsewhere will always haunt me)

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

*technically* I wrote my first fic for Star Trek DS9 at the kitchen table as a nine year old, but I became aware that fanfiction was a thing and started reading and writing on fanfiction dot net through Pokemon when I was in middle school. XY&Z era was peak

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

My partner and I are watching Arcane rn, and we’re both looking forward to me writing fic for that bc it will be the first time I’ve written something for a fandom he actually knows :)

What's your favourite fic you've written?

This has got to be my very first 1st person Crowley fic, and all i do is kiss you, through the bars of a rhyme (i’d do the stars with you anytime). I always say this, but this is the most Me piece I’ve written and the one that got me back into writing Good Omens fic. Discovering the intersection of Crowley’s voice and mine led to a very unique and fun piece, and a couple people have written their own stories based on it which is a huge honor!

If it’s a word or line here and there fair enough but if you’re writing a whole exchange that I don’t understand, my eyes are just gonna glaze over it. Dawg, I cannot read that! And also I think there’s such nuance to the way people switch languages when they’re bilingual and a lot of not bilingual people writing bilingual characters do not understand that. It’s both more and less casual than the way most people depict it.

I love all my children equally, but stuff from this year I’m particularly delighted with are a great threat just because the universe of Paul being the girl beatle was so delicious to play with and also toxic yuri >:), and The McCartney Issue cause it hit me while I was in the midst of struggling with sort of writer’s block and a bit of a confidence dive in terms of writing, and it came to me so fully formed so it was nice to know that spark was still there, and I had a lot of fun with it.

while most times he is pretty caring when tickling someone, there are times he gets to wrapped up in it and goes a bit overboard and someone has to stop him. afterwards, he feels super guilty so he will shower u with aftercare, hugging you and apologizing nonstop, offering snacks, you name it.

his tickles tend to be on the rougher side but not enough up hurt. it used to, but after realizing that some people don’t like it like that, he eases up a bit. since i said before that he sees tickling as a bonding activity, he wants to make sure that everyone’s having fun.

first of all, vil isn’t all that embarrassed about being ticklish. now, that doesn’t mean he wants the whole world to know. he’s alright with being tickled or tickling someone as long as it’s in a private space.

Ok so I’m new here ( Beatles fandom ) and I’m just trying to learn as much as I can but once I think I feel like I’m getting a grip on things, I’m made very well aware that i don’t even know half of the lore with these boys. so would you be able to tell me where i can go to just deep dive learn about everything? The good, the bad , the ugly , the dark , ect

Idk if I’m the best person to ask bc my general approach to lore is just to learn through osmosis and have read exactly 0 (zero) Beatles books, but I’ll tell you how I went about it.

When I joined the fandom the main thing I did is just go through blogs I liked, (not even to learn stuff I just wanted to Look At more Stuff) which would inevitably have quotes and easily digestible shitposts about stuff which can give you a pretty good idea of lore even if it’s not the most accurate source. @amoralto is a wealth of sourced information which I often return to when I need to find something for a fic. @muzaktomyears also reads beatles books I have no interest in ever reading for myself and posts great quotes so that I won’t have to.

Also, you can always ask people! We’re all in this fandom bc we like talking about this stuff. Some of us may be more knowledgeable than others, but I’m sure if you pop into most people’s ask boxes and say like “I’m new here. What’s the deal with the divorce meeting?” they will be happy to either tell you themselves or point you in the direction of someone else who can.

The Beatles Bible is a good resource too. I use it a lot for the timeline feature (which isn’t perfect but is decent enough) but there’s also articles about basically everything (with quotes!) so it serves the same function as like a fandom wiki to me.

Lastly, I may be biased bc I’m a writer, but I always find the easiest way to learn lore for any fandom is simply by reading a bunch of fic lol. Maybe not the most historically accurate way, but if you go in knowing that there are artistic liberties everywhere you can start to pick up on common threads and events (fic was how I learned about the jp paris trip and the existence of Stuart sutcliffe, among other things).

Also, I will say, if you’re someone who likes going off and doing research, off you pop! Have fun! But if, like me when I joined the fandom, you’re simply trying get your bearings a bit, know that no one is expecting you to be a perfect Beatles historian. You are allowed to participate in the fandom even if you don’t know every little thing. And as I’ve said, you will pick it up as you go along!

I’ve made a post on what words I’d recommend to use as descriptors in smut here I think that would be somewhat helpful! There’s tons of really good tips floating around tumblr from more experienced smut writers but since I’m not really aware of your writing skill/style I’ll give some vague tips haha

I think first things first, don’t stress over it being perfect, like really don’t. My first smut was atrocious and I wrote it like, this year as a grown woman 😭 Second, I’d personally advice to get into a mood. You don’t have to be horny but I personally cannot write sex without feeling something before I have my fingers on the keyboard it’s genuinely the most boring thing to write in the world if you’re just…idk neutral? 😭

I think the best advice ever is where exactly do you want the smut to go? How far? Do the characters have sex, penis in vagina or is it just a damn handjob in a stall lmao. Then when you figure out the end, go back, how does it start? Does he push her into a door and start kissing her? Was it a heated argument and then someone just decided to crash their lips onto the others? Then you could add a build up— ‘he kisses along her jawline as she busies herself unbuckling his pants’. I don’t know if its helpful to say but if you have a plot, and you’ve set those pillar parts up for your smut, you kind of get into a flow. At least for me thats how it goes.

I would strongly strongly advice to write what you like 😭 If you don’t like unprotected, don’t write unprotected. If you don’t like choking, don’t write choking, you get what I mean. I don’t know why but it’s very evident when reading smut if a writer just isn’t really into it and it does lower the enjoyability of a reader

hmm. idk that there are any because i am cripplingly easy to convince regarding ships. one good manifesto or one decent piece of fanart and im like ‘you know what? i can see it.’

(One Good Fanart is how i ended up shipping frostiron. and also jarlaxle/kimmuriel is entirely rukafais' fault bc they made the idea so Compelling. and then i read lawful’s KimmRai scenes and im like ‘oh this is also Very Compelling’. basically send me a good fic and i’ll add it to the fuckin roster)

15 - Fandom you find annoying?

you know, i think i’m genuinely chill about most fandoms because i live in a bubble where i never encounter Other People. i simply do not have the haters temperament outside of liking to read drama that doesn’t involve me

does being annoyed at x-reader writers count? because for the love of god can y’all just have a Tag that you use on here so i can filter it out?? i don’t want to see how bad you want the call of duty man or the anime boy du jour to raw you while i'm just trying to find Fun and Relatable Writing Posts

23 - Age when you started reading fanfic?

oh god, i want to say like. 11? maybe? whenever quizilla harry potter fic was big i guess. i was probably more like 13 when i was actively going ‘this is fanfic and i am reading it’ because quizilla was just a rabbit hole of ‘i am taking a fun quiz oh now im reading terrible OC-insert pseudo porn that is high literature to my 11 year old brain’

24 - Funniest fandom-related story?

my fun fact that i like to bring up is that i learned about fanfiction.net existing from the official maximum ride webpage, where they straight up had it linked.

more fandom-related, idk if it’s funny, but back in ye olde sherlock days, when the ‘sherlock lives’ thing was A Thing, someone wrote it on a desk in my college, and I eventually found them (they were already in my english class, as it turns out). we made a bunch of posters and went and stuck them up around town in the (not quite) middle of the night. not funny per-se but it was fun!

1) How many works do you have on AO3? - Honestly only like 3, I don’t usually post my fics on there bc I always forget. I need to sit down and do that. I have 11 on tumblr though.

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?- Like 30k

3) What fandoms do you write for? - Just Stranger Things atm. I have been considering a few other things lately tho.👀

4) What are your top five fics by kudos? - Again I don’t really post my fics on AO3 as much so I only have 5 on there lol but my top fics on tumblr are Beer and Bunny’s, Cat and Mouse, Best Mates, All You Have To Do Is Ask, and See You Again.

5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? - ALWAYS!! Sometimes when I’m feeling down about my writing I go back and reread them and it keeps me going/hypes me up.

6) What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? - I do not have a single fic that ends even remotely angsty. I cannot do angsty endings, reading them or writing them. I need my happy ending.

7) What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? - hmmm most of them honestly, but I really like the ending of Beer and Bunny’s. They’re so cute.

8) Do you get hate on fics? - I’ve never gotten hate before. I hope I give off a chill, in my own lane, kinda vibe.

9) Do you write smut? If so, what kinds? - Yesss lol honestly just nasty, pervy, unhinged smut. I don’t think I’ve ever really written any kind of soft smut. Not intentionally I’m just a whore. :)

10) Do you write crossovers? - I never have, no. I do have an AU based off my fav movie coming out soonish but it’ll be all ST characters still.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? - Nah lol idk who would take the time to steal MY fics

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? - Yes!! I have a whole AU universe with one of my friends and I’m working on two other collabs w other people. 👀🤭

14) What’s your all time favorite ship? - Listen, I’m fucking basic okay? I will always love Katniss and Peeta. Also Raven and Alexander from Vampire Kisses but no one ever knows that series.😩

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? - Sugar and Spice. It was a series I started before I told myself I’m not allowed to write multi chapter fics bc I put too much pressure on myself about it lol

16) What are your writing strengths? - I’ve been told more than once that my dialogue is good. Which feels nice. Also nasty smut.

17) What are your writing weaknesses? - Transitions tbh, I’ll get to a certain point and get stuck esp transitioning into the smut which is usually what I was trying to get to in the first place.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? - I legit only speak English so I would not even try

19) First fandom you wrote for? - AVATAR THE LAST AIR BENDER lol zuko was my MANS

20) Favorite fic you’ve written? - See You Again, this one I’m just very proud of, and I love my OC girlfriend I made for myself and I just spent a lot of time on this one. I want to finish the prequel EVENTUALLY.
